Plans for the Week

So after going to Lantau Island and exploring it me and Pat got the idea to hike up to the top instead of taking the cable car.  I think we are going to get an early start tomorrow am and trek our way down there on the MTR, and then proceed to hike our way along the bottom of the cable car route.  or something like that.  The cable car was pretty spectacular, but hiking up it and then maybe a few trails once we get there would be pretty awesome.  So as of right now we are planning on doing that, but hell, we could change our minds and go see something else tomorrow!  As far as the rest of th week I have no idea what is gong to happen.  Thursday Carly is coming back, so I'm sure her and the Syracuse group will want to go out maybe Friday night or Saturday.  And then the next week is Chinese New Year. Which should be awesome!  I think that we might get a group together and make a day or two trip up to Macau, do some gambling, maybe buy sum good ole stogies while I'm there too.  Ill keep you updated, no worries.  And wish us luck if we end up hiking tomorrow.

Lantau Island = Success

Lantau Island was really awesome today.  we took the MTR all the way to the end of the orange line, then got on a cable car that took us over the island, and it had a glass bottom!  that was really awesome, to be able to see right through the floor.  After we got to the end of the ride we hiked up to the Big Buddha and then visited the monastery.  Big Buddha is the largest sitting facing north Buddha in the world.  Ya I know, it sounds like kinda a niche tittle to hold, but he was still really huge and very impressive.  Check out the surplus of photos I put in on my Picasa page to really get a better feel for todays adventure.

Off to Lantau Island

Its bout 7:45 here on Sunday morning and I am wide awake and showered.  today we are going to Lantau Island.  It is an outlying island in between Kowloon and Hong Kong, the airport is on it, and the biggest Buddha in the world is also located there.  From what I've gathered it should be a pretty scenic island. there are a couple of small fishing villages, a cable car that gives tours, and it should provide some really cool photos.  I'm taking my big ole camera so be patient and later today I will post some of the pictures up and give a summary of everything I saw.  Sorry I haven't updated in a while, but this week at school nothing much was happening.  I will get back on here tonight and tell all about the snake restaurant and the trip to Lantau Island.
(Looking forward to my Gmail date with the Family)

Sunday Morning

I just got done uploading some more photos that I took during our day trip to Lama Island yesterday.  Check em out!
Yesterday we traveled to Lama Island, which is about a forty minute ferry ride out of the Central piers.  It is a fairly small island and is primarily a fishing community.  We pulled up to the island and our guide informed us we have about an hour long hike to get to the beach where we will have dinner.  Everyone was less then thrilled.  We started our hike, and from what I gathered we hiked around the whole freaking island.  hahaha, but then we got to the beach and had sum street food for a snack, it was called "chicken meat" it was pretty awesome actually.  So we chilled at the beach fro a couple hours, then hiked to the restaurant.
The dinner was family style, with a huge lazy Susan in the middle of the table.  At first everyone was timid, but Temi soon realized that we soon became like a pack of Lions and it got aggressive. hahaha, but it was all good fun and good food.  The menu consisted of chicken, scallops in there shells with noodles and such, sweet and sour chicken, fish with a lemony sauce, more chicken (I think), greens (which I passed on), and some oranges for dessert. good stuff.
After we had taken the ferry back to central Hong Kong, we asked our student ambassador/guide where the good places where in LKF (lan kwai fong)  so we hit up a few places with him.  We ended up on a roof top restaurant, which was too expensive for us that night, but the view was amazing.  I think I'll go back in my suit and order a dirty Martini like James Bond.
I'll try to get on more this week, but right now I need some breakfast.  maybe rice ;-) hahaha

Day Two of Class

Well as of right now, I haven't had any classes on day two... But I have a three hour lecture in Operations Research at six thirty this evening.  Hopefully that wont be as painful as it sounds.  I just got done with lunch, had a roasted chicken sandwich with lettuce cucumbers and some mayo.  Cost me about three bucks.  Me and pat are chillin in the academic building taking advantage of the free WiFi right now.  Its prime real estate for people watching right now, watching everyone running around trying to find classes.  Or maybe they're just running away from me, I spose i do look kinda like a criminal with my knit beanie on right now.
I did get my Student ID card taken care of today, so now the security guards will not bother me.  Like they cant recognize me, I'm the only six foot tall bearded white guy in the 12 floor building. Hahaha oh well.
I beleive the plan for tonight is to meet up with sum more exchange students and go down to LKF, basically the Manhattan of Hong Kong.  Should be good.

First Day Of Class

First class went well.  Intro to Forensic Sciences at 10:30 am with a Scottish women who has worked on CSI cases in the UK and in HK as well.  She is very nice and was excited I think to have three Americans that will be able to converse in English fairly proficiently.  There were only about 20 students in the class, so it will be a good one to go and participate in and engage in discussion.  I'm excited for the class, it should be fun and interesting, quite the opposite of most of the classes I've taken previously.  Me Mitch and Pat are sitting in this coffee shop surfing the web and Pat is researching Frommer's for good stuff to do this weekend.  Me and Pat also checked out the gym and signed up for a half hour course we have to attend in order to move weight.  I cant wait to get back into the gym and get back into a respectable shape.  I have Forensics again at 2:30 today, it has two parts, one lecture and one tutorial.  Hopefully these blogs are painting a good picture of life in Hong Kong.

Sunday Night Here in Kowloon

We found wifi in the academic building, so until I get my Internet hooked up in my room this is where I will my posted up on the internet.  Today was a relaxed day, we didn't get up and out till bout ten thirty maybe eleven.  I had sum emails I needed to check, some stuff and things to take care of before we started our day.  But we did decided once we got going that Sunday is America Sunday!  And had a Big Mac to commemorate the new holiday we invented.  We wandered around Festival Walk, which is a huge mall that has tons of stores that are way too expensive for me to buy anything at.  But it does have a good grocery store that has everything I have needed thus far.  We also found Dan Ryan's Chicago Steak house and Bar.  Sat down and had a few brews at about four in the afternoon.  Overall a good day today.  I think my sleep is gonna be back on track here, and tomorrow will be the first day of class, so we will see how that goes.
Till next time,
Clint
